One would think the sole event of me uploading something calls for a "yay" of sorts, but to be honest I'm not very happy with my drawing as of lately.
After DAYS of watching other people's works, particularly those I praise the most and cause my brain to go havoc, seeing, drooling and hopelessly trying to comprehend the beauty of them (Sachiko Kamimura and Hyung Tae Kim btw), and somehow trying to grasp what on earth it is I'm missing, I ~think~ I've come up with some little self-advice that ~could~ help me finally hit it. (cause in case you didn't know, at least these days I'm never satisfied with what I draw).
1) First and foremost -> THE GOD DAMN PAPER MAN! >.>
I mean, seriously, all this time (that is, ever since I was 12) I've been drawing on this crappy school notebook which is roughly 20x25 cm, heck, less than letter size. Take a look at all the details of their work, the eyelashes, the thickness of a steep curve in the knees, the nose shadow. There's no way in hell all that fits in a crappy notebook like mine! DUH! So first thing today was to go buy a... uh... would it still be called notebook? Dunno, but this thing is well beyond half the size of my desktop, Caguama-size like they say.
2) Secondly -> THE TOOLS!
I need to buy a copy of Photoshop. I don't even know why. But since everyone (even HTK) uses it, it must be of good use. Look at the "lingerie-like" edges of his female characters' clothing. There's no way I'm drawing that line by line! I'm thinking it has to do with the so-called brushes or something, but then again I know nil about it, so it's pure speculation.
3) Last but not least -> THE GUTS!
Yeah. Kinda hard to explain. I'm thinking my drawings are a bit shy. Not the poses/faces/attire, nothing with the characters at all. I mean, the very pencil strokes. I know that I DO take a lot of care with them, I lower my head and take a very good close look of what I'm drawing, and then pull back to see if it came out as I wanted, then maybe I'll erase it or draw thicker over it.
BUT NO! NO! NO! That's not the way to do it!....err or at least it seems it's not the way they do it. You can tell by the thickness, amount, inclination, that these people just sit down and SWOOSH! FRRRRR! VROOOM! BAM!
So I'm going to try to do that, there's plenty of space to go wild in this new ~notebook~ I bought. I need more hip bones! more quadriceps, more cloth wrinkles FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!
Sheez, to think all this eluded me for so long.
Anyway, the very next stuff I'll upload.... that won't have been drawn with my newly developed SFVB technique (Swoosh-frr...etc.).
We'll see if I do in fact get better. If you happen to see all my drawings to be the stale same as always from here on... it means I failed miserably.
